Cade grumbled at Niko but slid down the bed, not bothering to get up, only draping his muscular legs off the side and propping a hand next to my feet.

“Do we … do we do this alone or …” I asked, unsure.

“We all attend each feeding to monitor amounts,” Vasili said.

“Oh, okay.” The words were more of a whisper as Niko’s massive body settled in beside me.

“Laying down helps, especially for this first time.” Niko leaned in as I scooted down to rest my head on the pillow and kept my arms pinned at my sides. “I’m going to take from your neck, on the opposite side. All you have to do is tilt your head and turn to me, but more contact can help. If you’re okay with me—us—touching you.”

“Uh, sure,” I agreed. Because, duh. As if I would object to anything that would tear my focus from them drinking my blood. And yes, them touching me would most definitely do that. “Can I touch you, too?”

“Absolutely. However, whenever, and wherever you’d like,” Vasili answered with a seductive smirk. His fingers pinched a lock of my hair from the pillow and twirled it around.

“It’ll be good if you do,” Cade added. “But do whatever makes you comfortable.”

“We’ll try taking the normal way first. If our strikes are too painful or intense, we can get you numbing cream or something else to help.”

“And this won’t … a bite won’t make me a vampire?” It was really late to ask, but also a pretty stupid question, anyway. I already knew the answer by what little I’d learned. Oliver had fed from Mae, and she was still human. Plus, how could they continuously drink from me if it changed me? Nevertheless, I wanted to hear the truth.

“No, you won’t change unless you were to drink a fair amount of our blood,” Niko answered softly.

“All right. Let’s do it. Too much talking about it might start making me twitch,” I said, clenching the puffy gray comforter beneath my hands.

Niko chuckled, then wasted no time shifting closer. His lower half wasn’t fully flush with mine, but his upper body pushed against me while one hand slid under my head and the other took hold of my shoulder. He rolled me toward him as his face dipped into the corner of my neck. His breath caressed there before his tongue met my skin for a soft, warm lick. His lips pressed down into a kiss, making me shiver. And then …

A sharp pain sliced through the same place, causing my body to seize up. My free hand jerked from its position at my side, reaching out around his back and gripping him firmly. The rest of my body slackened, and he pulled me closer. He was all-encompassing. His scent, his breaths, his solid body coiling around me.

I felt the pull at my neck, the deep sigh from inside his chest, then his whole body shuddered.

A moan escaped my lips, the feeling of it all so overwhelming that I couldn’t hold it in.
